Fashionable Asthma Inhalers

.........Representing a different way to think about innovating form through design for already established products and markets.

We came across an interesting abstract of a designer considering the form-function design paradigm of Asthma Inhalers and Insulin Injection Pens. The designer was proposing some new and much more aesthetically pleasing designs for these medical devices.

aIDEAS realised that it might be difficult for the pharmaceutical industry to adopt the ideas being proposed; not because they weren't innovative or promoted new inspiring forms, but because it overlooked one key fact— the asthma inhaler market is based on established product sales to a captive customer base.

In this type of market the business emphasis typically would be on improving margins through small and incremental manufacturing, logistical and delivery process improvements, rather than innovative new design.

There could be another way.
