Fledglings
aIDEAS publicises Fledglings.
Fledglings and aIDEAS have been working together since middle of 2008 developing designs for products where there currently are none available or where design impovements would add significant value to children and their families.
Fledglings is a national charity, which supports parents and carers of children with special needs by finding product solutions to everyday practical problems. They offer a free of charge bespoke information service which addresses individual needs of each child and family.
Fledglings has been operating with a client base of more than 10,000 individuals and families for more than 10 years and is shortlisted as one of three 2009 Finalists for the National Lottery Awards - Best Voluntary Charity.
Ruth Lingard, founder and director of Fledglings, has extensive experience working with disabled children and families. She has post-graduate qualifactions in teaching, social work and family therapy and has worked in special schools, local authority Social Services departments and in three major teaching hospitals in the UK. Her award winning information book 'A Child First' was published in November 1997, since when she has been involved in developing Fledglings' service. Ruth is a full-time unpaid volunteer. In the New Year's Honours list 2005, Ruth was awarded the MBE 'for services to disabled young people'.
